The Recruitment Process

Kwara TESCOM usually opens its portal for new teachers whenever they need more hands in senior secondary schools, especially in the rural parts of the state.

The recruitment process is done online and they are mostly looking for people who can teach STEM subjects (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Maths).

If you’re a STEM teacher and you don’t mind being posted to a rural community, you have a much better chance of being picked.

Eligibility Criteria & Requirements

All applicants must meet the following standards as outlined by TESCOM:

  • Open to all Nigerians. However, applicants must provide a Certificate of Local Government Origin and are screened for willingness to work in rural Kwara communities.
  • Must not be older than 35 years as of 31st January of the recruitment year.
  • Applicants must have a valid discharge or exemption certificate.
  • Applicants should be duly registered with the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
  • All shortlisted candidates will undergo a mandatory drug test conducted by the NDLEA and a general medical fitness test as part of the final screening.

Qualifications Needed

TESCOM is specific about academic qualifications for teaching roles in senior secondary schools:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed., B.Sc. Ed., B.A. Ed.).
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or an NCE certificate.
  3. It is important to note that “NCE alone is not enough” for TESCOM recruitment to senior secondary schools. Applicants that have only an NCE without a university degree are not eligible.
  4. For non-teaching/security roles, requirements vary, but they don’t require the teaching qualifications listed above.

Documents Needed for Application

You must prepare clear scanned copies of these documents for upload:

  1. Recent Passport Photograph.
  2. Birth Certificate or Age Declaration.
  3. Certificate of Local Government of Origin.
  4. National Identification Number (NIN) Slip.
  5. O’Level Result(s) (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) (Maximum of two sittings and must include credits in Mathematics and English).
  6. Degree Certificate(s) and Statement of Result.
  7. NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate.
  8. TRCN Certificate.
  9. A valid means of identification (e.g., Driver’s License, Voter’s Card, International Passport).
  10. Your Signature.

Recruitment Stages

1. Vacancy Announcement / Online Application: The Kwara TESCOM recruitment process begins with announcement of vacancies and then online application by interested, eligible and qualified persons.

    2. Computer-Based Test (CBT): Few weeks after the application deadline elapse, the TESCOM would review submitted applications and then release shortlisted candidates for the aptitude test. The test covers English, Mathematics, and likely General Knowledge and Teaching knowledge.

The CBT centres for the process are:

      • Thomas Adewunmi University, Oko
      • Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa
      • Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin
      • University of Ilorin
      • Ilorin West LGA Library/CBT Centre, Agbo-Oba
      • Lafiagi Emirate Information and Technology Hub, Emir’s Road, Lafiagi
      • Tsoede CBT Centre, along Patigi-Ilorin Road, Patigi

The candidates would be required to choose which of the listed CBT centres that is closest or most convenient for them, after which they will be assigned the time of their examination.

They are to print their examination slip from the portal and bring it to their centre. Applicants are expected to arrive at the venue of their exams at least one hour before their cohort will begin their examination.

Applicants should ensure that they behave themselves appropriately before, during, and after the test, as this is itself a form of assessment for the public sector job.

      3. Interview & Peer Teaching: Successful CBT candidates would then be invited for an interview and a practical teaching assessment where you might have to demonstrate your teaching ability.
