Facts to Note

The teachers in Bauchi State are managed through two main boards: the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The Bauchi Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) is responsible for the overall management of teachers in secondary schools and colleges in terms of handling their recruitment, promotion, and discipline.

In contrast, the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) oversees the basic education sector, which includes primary and junior secondary schools.

They are responsible for monitoring teacher attendance in order to reduce the rate of absenteeism as well as managing the deployment of teachers to ensure that students have access to quality education across all 20 local government areas.

Overview of Bauchi State Teachers Recruitment

The Bauchi State Government had approved the recruitment of 3,000 teachers (2,000 were deployed to Junior Secondary Schools and 1,000 were deployed to Senior Secondary Schools) across the state.

The teachers were placed on the state government’s payroll and the recruitment was aimed at fulfilling conditions for implementing the AGILE program in the state.

The reason for this is that during the sensitization meeting on the Girls Scholarship Programme with Stakeholders from the Bauchi Local Government, it was put forward that teachers are to be recruited from communities that would have benefitted from the Adolescent Girls Learning Project (AGILE).

The AGILE project was introduced by the World Bank and had some enticing benefits attached to it; wherein conditions for its implementation in interested states was the recruitment of 3,000 teachers.
